Mark and Betsy Nanchy in Mexico

Verana in Mexico. It’s near Yelapa on the West coast.  You fly into Puerto Vallarta, take a cab ride for about 30 minutes, and get on a very small boat that takes you over to Verana.  They drop you off at the dock and a mule takes your luggage on its back up to the resort. It’s a boutique hotel with just a few rooms.  Each room has its own personality and is very different.
You can read more about it at Verana.com
We found it on a Mexico small boutique hotels website and decided to go there because we were really looking for a smaller hotel and this one was very unique.  Also the flight to PV from Dallas isn’t too long so it’s an easy trip.

There wasn’t really anything that didn’t meet our expectations.  I recall that the service was just okay, but I wasn’t expecting too much since it’s Mexico.
The food and drinks were good.

Our favorite parts of the trip were: 1. our room – we had a completely open air room!  the Palapa.  we had an outdoor shower, and a beautiful view.  2. we also loved the tour we did to the Mariettas islands.  we had a guide that took us on a small boat and we saw huge turtles and tons of fish.

A few things to know about this place… there are lots of stairs/steps in rocks, and it takes a little while to get up and down, the resort is on the side of a mountain.  there is no beach, but there is one near the town of Yelapa which is about a 20-30 minute walk through the jungle.

We would definitely go again and can’t think of much we’d do differently.
