Lance Davis and Mac McKay in Africa

We would definitely go again. And the only thing we would do differently is spend more time and add on a few days in Capetown at the end.

1).  Where did you go and what made you decide?
We went on an 18-day African safari. We had always wanted to go to Africa but figured that would be a trip that we would need to wait until we retired, to take. We found a great opportunity through diligent research with a company called Eyes on Africa. It fit our budget and had a great itinerary that went from Johannesburg to Zimbabwe.

2).  Was there anything that didn’t meet your expectations and why?
Actually there was not a single thing other than South African Airways that didn’t meet our expectations. The plane we were supposed to take was taken out of commission and we ended up on a very, very old plane for 18 hours.

3).  What was your favorite experience and what would you recommend?
Every camp and experience was incredible for very different reasons. But if we had to choose one experience that we opted to take advantage of that we wouldn’t miss doing again, it would be opting in for extra game drives. We saw the Big 5 on our first safari, which is unusual. But by taking a twilight game drive, we were able to spot a mother cheetah and her baby. It was surreal.

4).  Is there anything you’d wish you’d known prior to going?
We were very well prepared and there is a great deal to know before going to Africa. But we did the research in advance for the required inoculations, appropriate clothing for the time of year, and planning for the lack of electricity to charge camera batteries.

5).  Would you go again and what is the one thing you’d do differently?
We would definitely go again. And the only thing we would do differently is spend more time and add on a few days in Capetown at the end.
